Preparing for Your Vascular Ultrasound
If you have a morning appointment for your vascular ultrasound procedure, avoid eating after 8:00pm the evening before. If your appointment is in the afternoon, do not eat anything for the 7 hours before your exam. Any medication should be taken as you normally would.
How Does a Vascular or Cardiac Ultrasound Work?
Our ultrasound technician will conduct an ultrasound exam to create an image of your body’s veins and arteries, or evaluate blood flow through major arteries and veins using a Doppler ultrasound technique. The structures of your blood vessels and the surrounding tissues can be visualized using a small, hand-held device called a transducer, which sends high-frequency sound waves into your body. These sound waves then bounce off of your internal structures and are collected by the transducer. A computer takes this information to create images of your vascular system, and can offer insight into the flow of blood through the vessels.
